A self described "devout Holy Roller"and self-ordained "vessel of the spirit", A.L. Lanfield made many musical recordings. Leaning heavily on the rural blues and folk styles of the early 20th century, as well as the frenetic rhythms of shout music in the Black Gospel tradition, his guitar playing is often self-accompanied by tambourine, bass drum, and harmonica. Though he mostly stuck to singing when playing music, he would occasionally slip into an Evangelical style of witness preaching. His repertoire mostly consisted of original songs of witness to the Holy Spirit as well as interpretations of Spirituals and Blues.

These 10 recordings represent the first volume of his complete recorded works.
